Landscape Tips
Trimming & Pruning
Use clean, sharp pruning instruments to avoid injuring the plant or tree. The best time to prune is just prior to new growth, typically in the late winter or early spring. Instruments should be cleaned with a sterilization solution containing either bleach (25% with 75% water) or pine oil (25% / 75% water) or alcohol (50% / 50% water) between trimming plants/trees to avoid the spread of disease. Palm trees should not be “Hurricane Cut” or pruned above the 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock outline. Removing green fronds reduces winter hardiness, weakens the canopy, and leads to nutrient deficiency.
Irrigation
This will vary depending on the type of plant or tree; however, many of our disease issues are attributed to overwatering practices, especially with palm trees. Roots that are saturated cannot pull nutrients from the soil and may even rot. Palm trees require only a minimum amount of water and perform best under dry conditions.

Landscape According To Site Conditions
Plants and trees should be planted according to site conditions, including soil moisture, soil fertility, and amount of sunlight. Soil testing is recommended for sites with ongoing issues.
Be Proactive
Ask for an evaluation and treatment program for your high valued landscape investment before a problem occurs. Tree nutritional deficiencies may take a couple of injection seasons to correct. Also, disease treatments are preventative measures and provide no curative remedy.
Pest Prevention Tips
Properly Store Food
Store pantry products like cereal, flour, rice, pasta, etc., in a Ziploc bag or sealed container. If you have a contaminated product, you only need to dispose of one item saving you the trouble and expense of throwing all food items away.
Keep Food Areas Clean
Roaches and ants are scavenging opportunists. Make sure that food preparation areas and pet food areas are kept clean.
Trim Nearby Landscapes
Keep landscape plants and tree branches off and away from your home or structure, making it as difficult as possible for pests to use them as a way to enter.

Monitor Bird Feeders & Baths
Bird feeders, though well intended, often attract nuisance wildlife including rodents. Bird baths can become mosquito breeding pools if not frequently cleaned.
Decrease Nighttime Lighting
Reduce or eliminate unnecessary exterior lighting on your home, especially if you live in an area with aquatic midges. Flying insects, and subsequently the spiders that feed on them, are attracted to nighttime lights.
Lake Maintenance Tips
Avoid Feeding Wildlife
Supplementing natural food sources will add to the nutrient load in the water body in the form of excrement. Higher nutrient loads trigger algae blooms and fish kills.
Embrace Desirable Vegetation
Supplementing natural food sources will add to the nutrient load in the water body in the form of excrement. Higher nutrient loads trigger algae blooms and fish kills.
Keep Fertilizers and Grass Clippings on the Lawn
Fertilizers should be properly applied to their intended site and blown off sidewalks and roads so that they do not wash off into the water system. Likewise, grass clippings should stay on the lawn or in the landscape beds. Decomposing vegetation in a water body will release nitrogen and phosphorous.
Phosphorus Loading from Well Water
Florida irrigation wells contain phosphorus, an essential nutrient for algae and plant growth. Irrigation runoff into storm drains or direct supply into ponds increases algae.
